Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation; [se’lena kinta’nija ‘peres] April 16, 1971 - March 31 1995), was an American Tejano singer. Her contributions to music and fashion led to her being the "Queen" of Tejano music. She was among the most well-known performers from the Mexican-American genre of the late 20th century. In the year 2020, Billboard magazine put her in the third spot on their list of "Greatest Latino Artists of All Time", based on both Latin albums and Latin songs chart. The media dubbed her the "Tejano Madonna" for her clothing choices. Her choices in clothing also makes her one of the most renowned Latin artists. Quintanilla Quintanilla. (1993) won the award for Best American/Mexican album at the 1994 Grammy Awards, becoming the first female Tejano artist to be awarded this distinction. Amor Prohibido became one the most sold Latin albums in America in 1994. It was critically acclaimed as having been the cause of Tejano music's first marketable era and it became one of the most sought-after Latin music subgenres at the time.
